Atlantic Tire & Service is a licensed North Carolina State Inspection Station. The State of North Carolina requires an annual vehicle safety and emissions inspection prior to renewing your vehicle registration. Vehicles may be inspected up to 90 days before your registration expires. North Carolina does not issue inspection stickers; The NC Department of Motor Vehicles keeps an electronic record of your inspection.
Most inspections are routine and require only simple repairs (such as replacing a burned out turn signal light), but we recommend scheduling your inspection in advance to allow adequate time. Please visit the DMV website here for more information.
Safety Inspections
During a safety inspection, a licensed mechanic examines a vehicle’s:
Headlights
Accessory lights
Directional signals
Foot brake
Parking brake
Steering
Tires
Horn
Rearview mirror
Windshield wipers
Exhaust system
Emission control components
Tinted windows, if applicable
Motor vehicles registered in 19 North Carolina counties must also pass an emissions inspection, conducted at the same time as the safety inspection. Failure to get a vehicle inspected by the due date will result in a vehicle’s registration being blocked until the vehicle is inspected.
Emissions Inspections
In conjunction with an annual safety inspection, motor vehicles registered in 19 North Carolina counties listed below must undergo an on-board diagnostic emissions inspection as part of requirements to keep air quality standards in compliance with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency guidelines.
